Abstract Coal is still the main source of energy in China. SO2 and NOx emissions from coal combustion are yet one of the main sources of pollution. In this paper, the recent technologies that includes liquid phase absorption, ultraviolet advanced oxidation, low temperature plasma, electron beam, combining ozone pre-oxidation with chemical absorption and dry catalytic regeneration technology for simultaneous desulfurization and denitrification of coal-fired flue gas are summarized and reviewed in detail. The influencing factors of SO2 and NOx removal efficiency were analyzed. The application of these technologies is prospected.
