 Ethical Guidelines

Chemical Industry and Engineering is committed to meeting and upholding standards of ethical behavior, which requires all parties involved in every publishing process to meet the expected ethical standards. We follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)’s guidelines, and set the key expectations for the author, the journal editor and editorial board, the peer reviewer as presented below.

1. Ethical expectations

Editors responsibilities

Editors is guided by the policies of the journal’s editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism.

Decisions on submissions should be made solely on their academic merit, regardless the gender, sexual orientation, religious or political beliefs, ethnic or geographical origin of the authors.

Reviewer responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to contribute to the decision-making process and assist in improving the quality of the published paper in a objective and timely manner.

The manuscripts that under review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers should not retain or copy the manuscript or discuss with others.

Any relevant publications or overlaps between published papers and the manuscript under consideration should be raised to editors.

Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, competitive or collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Authors responsibilities

Authors should refrain from misrepresenting research results which could damage the trust in the journal and ultimately the entire scientific endeavor. Maintaining integrity of the research and its presentation can be achieved by following the rules of good scientific practice, which includes but not limited to:

Integrity and Originality

Chemical Industry and Engineering is committed to publishing only original research. The manuscript should not be submitted to more than one journal for simultaneous consideration. A single study should not be split up into several parts to increase the quantity of submissions and submitted to various journals or to one journal over time (e.g., “salami publishing”). No data should be fabricated or manipulated (including images) to support conclusions.

Plagiarism

The manuscript has not been published previously (partly or in full), unless the new work concerns an expansion of previous work (please provide transparency on the reuse of material to avoid the hint of text recycling (“self plagiarism”)). No data, text, or theories by others are presented as if they were the authors’ own (“plagiarism”). Proper acknowledgements to other works must be given (this includes material that is closely copied (near verbatim), summarized and/or paraphrased), quotation marks are used for verbatim copying of material, and permissions are secured for material that is copyrighted. Note that the journal may use software to screen for plagiarism.

Co-authorship

Authors whose names appear on the submission have contributed sufficiently to the scientific work and therefore share collective responsibility and accountability for the results. Consent to submit has been received from all coauthors before the work is submitted and the corresponding author is responsible for having ensured that this agreement has been reached.

2. Procedures for dealing with unethical behavior

Misconduct and unethical behavior that brought to the attention of the editor and publisher at any time will be dealt with following the general procedures.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to those who have contributed substantially to the work, and every author has responsibility for the data and argument mentioned in the paper. The corresponding author must have obtained permission from all authors for the submission of each version of the paper and for any change in authorship.

Any change in authorship after initial submission must be approved by all authors and justified to the editor.

Copyright

Upon acceptance of an article, an email will be sent to the corresponding author confirming the acceptance of the manuscript and containing a “Copyright Transfer Agreement” form. The completed form must be returned to the Editorial Office.

Re-use permission requests

If the manuscript includes material (e.g., a figure or diagram) that belongs to someone else, we require the author to obtain all permissions that may be needed from the third parties. Please contact the publisher/copyright owner of the third party material to check how they wish to receive permission requests. Please plan to submit your request well ahead of publication of your material.
