Preparation of Polyamide Microcapsules Based on Microfluidics

Abstract In order to prepare polyamide microcapsules, a simple T microchannel was designed. Monodispersed (coefficient of variation ε<5%) polyamide microcapsules were prepared by interfacial polymerization using terephthaloyl chloride and 1,6-hexamethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine as the wall materials, Tween80 as surface active agent and polyvinyl alcohol as protective colloid. The polyamide microcapsules have good sphericity and their coefficient of variation ε is between 0.2% and 0.5%. The influence factors on the polyamide microcapsules size and distribution were investigated. The results show that with increasing amount of Tween80 and polyvinyl alcohol, the increasing flow rate of the continuous phase and the decreasing flow rate of the dispersed phase, the particle size of the polyamide microcapsules decrease and the distribution range becomes narrow.
