Abstract Membrane-Aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) has great advantages of strengthening the simultaneous removals of organic and nitrogen in wastewater because of its unique biofilm structure and mass transfer, leading to its extensive applications in wastewater treatment. In this paper, MABR principle and its status of the applications in industrial wastewater treatment were reviewed. Subsequently, the research hotspots and issues were summarized, and future trends in this field were further prospected.
