Abstract

A no-defect composite hollow fiber membrane was prepared through L-DOPA oxidation since its strong adhesion and film forming properties in alkaline aqueous solution. The effects of concentrations of L-DOPA, reaction time and solution pH on the modification were studied. The properties of modified membrane, such as surface topography, membrane hydrophobicity, gas flux and water contact angel, before and after the modification were analyzed, respectively. The no-defect surface can be formed at the concentration of 1.5 g/L (pH 9.5) after 7 h reaction, with a gas flux of 0.3176 mL/(cm2·s) and water contact angel of 75.1° were achieved. The MABR test indicated that the properties of COD and NH4+-N removals of the modified membrane were improved efficiently.
