Abstract The PVDF hollow fiber membrane was successfully modified by PANI through interfacial polymerization. The properties of membrane under different processing conditions, such as the membrane gas flux, hydrophilicity and surface roughness have been analyzed. The results showed that, compared with the original membrane, the water contact angle decreased from 89° to 73°, showing the improvement of hydrophilicity. The membrane gas flux of dedoping sample was higher than that of doping membrane, but lower than the original one. Also the membrane surface roughness was enhanced after coating PANI. The modified membrane played a better performance in the biofilm growth experiment, indicating that the modified membrane has a large potential ability in the application of MABR.
