Abstract The influence of free radicals on catalytic reduction of sulfur dioxide by carbon monoxide in the presence of oxygen over sulfurized LaCoO_3 was discussed.It is found that oxygen poisoning can be eliminated through the reaction with free radicals produced by pyrolysis of acetone,thus the activity of the catalyst can be well maintained.XRD and XPS were used to investigate the influence of free radicals on the catalyst's bulk phase and surface state.
