Abstract The heat transfer process and pressure drop of the longitudinal flow of shell heat exchanger with different percentage of opening were studied using a simplified model while the Reynolds numbers were (5 000),(10 000),(15 000) and(20 000.) The effects of the Reynolds, the percentage of opening and opening mode of the pore on heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop were discussed. The results show that when the Renolds is low, using larger percentage of opening can obtain better synthetical performance.Comprehensively considering heat transfer coefficient and energy consumption, the selection of different opening method is better while using different percentage of opening. It has reference value for the design of heat exchanger.
