Abstract In order to obtain the experimental data of liquid diffusion coefficients for the related system in the pure terephthalic acid(PTA) production process,a metallic diaphragm cell was prepared and its cell constant was determined by measuring the diffusion coefficient of aqueous KCl solutions at(25 ��.) The reliability of the device was verified by determining the system of acetic acid-water at(25 ��) with the known diffusion coefficient.The diffusion coefficients of p-xylene in acetic acid from 298.15 K to 323.15 K were determined by this metallic diaphragm cell.Based on the integral diffusion coefficients,the relationship between differential diffusion coefficients and concentration of p-xylene were correlated.Results show that diffusion coefficients decrease with the increase of concentration of p-xylene at the same temperature and increase with the increase of temperature at the same concentration.
