Preparation and Characterization of Photocrosslinked PVA-SBQ/GMHA Composite Nanofibers

Abstract In order to enhance the water solubility of hyaluronic acid and achieve sustained drug release, this study used electrospinning technology to prepare composite nanofiber membranes of modified hyaluronic acid (GMHA) and polyvinyl alcohol-styrene pyridine (PVA-SBQ). Then the photocrosslinked PVA-SBQ/GMHA composite fibers were obtained under ultraviolet irradiation. The morphology of PVA-SBQ/GMHA nanofibers was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The swelling ratio and drug release performance of composite nanofibers under different ultraviolet illumination time, temperature and pH were studied systematically, which indicated that composite nanofiber membranes swelled with the increase of temperature become smaller and the degree of swelling at pH 2.2 is less than that at pH 7.2. The cumulative release rate of 1.0% drug-loaded PVA-SBQ/GMHA fiber membrane after photocrosslinking was about 40% within 10 h, and the cumulative release curve was relatively flat, which achieved the purpose of drug sustained release.
