Abstract The hyperdispersant SMD for dispersing inorganic pigments was synthesized using sodium parastyrenesulphonate (SSS), polyethylene glycol monomethyl acrylate (MPEGA) and N,N-dimethylaminoethyl acrylate (DMAEA) as reactants through radical aqueous solution polymerization, with the advantage of low pollution. All of the processes were optimized by mathematic models established through central composite design method. The prediction results were accorded with that of the linear multiple regression equation. The dispersing performance of above hyperdispersant is excellent and the dynamic viscosity of CaCO3 paste is as low as 101.43 mPa·s, when initiator dosage is 8%, the polymerization temperature is 66℃ and the reaction time is 4.5 h.
