Abstract The modified X molecular sieves were prepared by the ion-exchange method and the impregnation method, named as CsX-IE and CsX-IMP respectively. The characterization of CsX-IE and CsX-IMP were carried out by the use of SEM, XRD, FT-IR, BET, TG and CO2-TPD techniques. The catalytic performance, including the catalytic activity, selectivity and stability, were evaluated in the reaction of the acetone vapor-solid phase condensation using a micro fixed-bed reactor. Characterization results show that CsX-IE and CsX-IMP molecular sieves catalysts both have the complete crystal structure, large surface area, the proper basic site and good thermal stability. The conditions on preparation of isophorone by condensation of acetone via modified molecular sieves catalysts were studied. The results show that the optimum reaction temperature is 350℃, and the best LHSV of acetone is 2.0 h-1. Under this conditions, the acetone conversion rate can reach 26.05%, the selectivity of isophorone is 52.27%.
