Abstract A method for quantification of methyl glycolate and the hydrolysis product glycolic acid using high performance liquid chromatography was developed. The apparatus type was an HP1100 series high performance liquid chromatography with VWD.Separation was performed on a ZORBAX SBC18 column(4.6 mm×150 mm,5 μm)The column temperature was 25 ℃ and the mobile phase was acetonitrile and phosphoric acid aqueous solution(20∶80,V/V)The flow rate was 0.4 mL/min with ultraviolet detection wavelength at 214 nm.A good linear regression curve was obtained with a favorable correlation coefficient(greater than 0.999 6).The method showed high average recoveries for the samples ranged from 99.30% to 105.96% and good precision(RSD)ranged from 0.3% to 1.0%.The results showed that the method was simple, fast and accurate enough to apply to the hydrolysis system of methyl glycolate.
