Numerical Simulation of Wet Desulfurization by Screw Static Mixer with Different Structure

Abstract Static screw mixer with variable pitch was used as a new desulfurization rig with high performance gas-liquid mass transfer efficiency. In order to optimize structural parameters of this mixer, a gas-liquid two-phase flow model was established in BarracudaTM software trough Euler-Lagrangian method, and the effects of this mixers with different variable pitch coefficient m, length to diameter ratio l/d and rotation angle of flow path section φ on desulfurization efficiencies (DE) were simulated based on above method and SO2 absorption rate equation. In condition of sufficient reactants available, the simulation results indicate that DE decreases with the increase of m, then tends to be flat when m≥0.50; DE increases with the increase of l/d, and tends to be flat when l/d=11, then rises again at l/d=14; DE increases with the increase of φ, then begins to be stable at φ near 630°. Based on above results, combined with the pressure drop and other indicators, the structural parameters (m=0.4,l/d=11,φ=630°) of this mixer were recommended. And experiments of this mixer with optimal structure was carried with the result of DE, 99.35% and outlet SO2 concentration, 19.56 mg.m-3, which exceeds the standard values of ultra-clean emission. Above results provide a basis for the design and manufacture of static screw desulfurization device at industrial-scale.
