Abstract With divided electrolytic cell,spongy Pb(SPb) as cathode,Pt as anode,saturated calomel electrode (SCE) as reference electrode and CH 3CN+C 2H 5OH+H 2O+Bu 4NBr as a electrolytic system,the electrochemical hydrogenation of mesophase pitch(MP) made from coal pitch of Taiyuan Iron and Steel Company was studied.The influences of electrolytic voltage,temperature and concentrations on the hydrogenation were examined.The results indicated that when the rate of c (CH 3CN) ∶ c (C 2H 5OH) ∶ c (H 2O) was 0 4∶0 2∶1(rate of concentration), c (Bu 4NBr) was 0 13mol/L ,the mesophase pitch was 50g/L, electrolytic temperature was 30℃,electrolytic time was 20h and electrolytic potential was -2 4V(vs SCE),The hydrogen content of hydrogenated mesophase pitch (HMP) increased by 0 61,The atomic ratio of hydrogen to carbon increased by 0 08,Soft point of hydrogenated mesophase pitch decreased by 22℃.
