Abstract The catalysts of Ni/Al_2O_3 and Ni-Ca/Al_2O_3 were prepared respectively by impregnation and co-impregnation. The effect of CaO incorporation on the conversion of naphthalene, yields and selectivities of H_2,CO, had been investigated. The difference of the ratio of H_2/CO, the carbon deposit and the amount of the organic by-products between the catalysts Ni-Ca/Al_2O_3 and Ni/Al_2O_3 had been compared. It had been confirmed that adding the CaO not only improve the conversion of naphthalene and the yields of H_2, CO, but also increase the selectivities of H_2,CO_2, nevertheless decrease the selectivity of CO. It is also found that the catalyst with CaO can improve the ratio of H_2/CO and decrease the carbon deposit, but do not affect the sort of the by-products and the content of the benzene.
