Abstract Loop reactors present some advantages:a simple construction without internals or moving parts,good heat and mass transfer capacity at low energy consumption and low shear stress with little damage to cells,so they are preferentially used for chemical,environmental and biochemical applications.Measurement techniques on gas holdup and liquid circulation velocity in loop reactors and identification methods of homogeneous regime and heterogeneous regime are summarized.Some tendencies on further development are presented.
