Abstract Effects of the foreign atoms on the electrical and optical property of titania films are fundamental to explore novel gas-sensing and solar cell materials. The polyethylene glycol(PEG)-doped TiO_2 films is prepared using the sol-gel method and the microstructure, crystallite morphology and semiconductor property of the films is characterized. The transmittance of the TiO_2 film depended on the content and the molecular weight of the PEG additive. The PEG2000-doped TiO_2 film showed a high gas response to CO at 350 ℃.This p-type PEG2000-doped TiO_2 film has potential applications to develop solar cells and gas sensors.
