Abstract The efficient extraction of crude oil is an important foundation for the country's sustainable development, and how to enhance oil recovery is an urgent problem to be solved. As a new type of deep profile control agent, nanoscale polymer microspheres have achieved significant application effects in the oilfields. The effect of enhancing waterflood recovery is obvious, which effectively supports the stable production of oilfields. Based on the review of the development process and preparation methods of nanoscale polymer microspheres, this paper introduces the current research situation of the mechanism of deep profile control of nanoscale polymer microspheres, and points out that it is urgent to establish a set of experiment methods and mathematical models that can reveal the microscopic mechanism of nanoscale polymer microspheres from the aspects of improving sweep efficiency and oil washing efficiency, systematically explain the microscopic oil displacement mechanism of nanoscale polymer microspheres. This is of great significance to elucidate the micro-mechanism of nanoscale polymer microspheres improving oil recovery and guide the development and application of new nanoscale displacement materials.
