Abstract Room-Temperature luminescent liquid is a new type of soft materials with wide application prospects, but the luminous efficiency of traditional organic luminescent liquid is generally low. In view of the above problem, a new type of tetraphenylethylene derivative was designed and synthesized through the introduction of fan-shaped alkyl tails. Its self-assembly behavior, luminescent property, thermal stability and phase structure were then elucidated by corresponding experiments such as UV-visible absorption spectra, photoluminescence spectra, thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The results show that the tetraphenylethylene derivative exhibits typical aggregation-induced emission property and exists as a viscous liquid at room temperature, it is a new type of room-temperature liquid luminescent material.
