A Comparative Study on the Synthesis of Metal Organic Frameworks MOF-5 by Different Methods

Abstract For the preparation of metal-organic frameworks MOF-5, three different ways, hydrothermal synthesis method, direct method and direct method with adding extra H2O2 were used to prepare compound MOF-5 crystals. The MOF-5 crystals were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR) and thermo gravimetric analyzer (TG). The effects of different synthesis methods on the crystals structure, morphology and thermal stability of the composite were studied. The results showed that the X-ray diffraction patterns of samples of the three methods are consistent with the characteristic peaks of the MOF-5 crystals in the literatures. It means that the MOF-5 crystals can be synthesized by these methods successfully. But the other characterization results show that the crystal particle diameter synthesized by hydrothermal method is smaller and has a regular cube structure, but poorer thermal stability. As to the other two methods, the products are a kind of crystals with irregular aggregations and different properties. Furthermore, the addition of H2O2 is helpful to the rapid formation and dispersion of grains.
