Abstract Poly[1-(4-trimethylsilyl)phenyl-2-phenylacetylene] (PTMSDPA) membranes were prepared by solution-casting method with thickness ranging from 33 μm to 112 μm to study the effect of aging on their gas permeability. The gas permeability of these membranes decreased during storing due to physical aging, which could be restored by immersing the membrane in methanol. The decreasing rate of gas permeability accelerated at high storing temperature, and the reduction of gas permeability became greater as the thickness of the membrane decreased. The storing atmosphere did not affect the gas permeability changing tendency of the membrane. The decrease of gas permeability was largely due to the decrease of diffusivity coefficient (D), while the solubility coefficient (S) did not change during storage.
