Abstract A process to extract squalene from soybean oil deodorizer distillate by using saponification and two steps of molecular distillation was studied. The appropriate process conditions were obtained by orthogonal design and response surface method respectively. For saponification process, reaction time is 40 min, reaction temperature is 80 ℃, alkali concentration is 0.8 mol/L. For firststage molecular distillation process, evaporation temperature is 73 ℃, feed rate is 1.1 mL/min, wiped film speed is 250 r/min. After two steps of molecular distillation, the mass fraction of squalene was increased from 1.95% to 21.01% and the total yield was 86.8%.
