Abstract A comprehensive experimental study on the fluid mechanics and mass transfer performances of absorption tower packed with φ16×16×2.0mm cerammic Rasching rings for water-air and water-ammonia-air systems. has been made. The experimental results showed that if there exists fouling in the packed bed, the pressure drop increases by 40~60%, under some gas velocities, and when the gas velocity is near the flooding point, the efficiency of mass transfer is optimun. The flooding velocity of the experimcntal values deviate from that of calculation within5%. Moreover, a suitable method for determining the time of steady mass transfer operation attained was suggested.
