Abstract The sol-gel process has become a widely spreading research field during the iast three decades. Most of materials such as glass, glass-ceramics, ceramics anti composites had been synthesised by using this method. In this paper, we will discuss about the history, basic principle, technology, application and prospect of the sol-gel process.
