Abstract A new type of coagulant polymeric ferric silicate-sulfate containing boron(PFSSB)is prepared in this paper. Effects of B, Fe contents on this coagulant properties are investigated. The coagulating characteristics and mechanism are also discussed. The results show that under the preparation conditions of n (B)/ n (Si)(molar ratio)=0.16, n (Fe)/ n (Si)(molar ratio)=0.50,PFSSB has optimal coagulating properties and stability. In comparison with PFS, PFSS, PFSSB is superior in suitable pH range, sedimentation and suitability. It proves to be a kind of excellent and useful coagulant. These excellent properties result from the attributions of iron ion, polysilicic acid, B and SO 2- 4 together.
