Abstract The graft-copolymerization of butyl acrylate onto gelatin was carried out in aqueous medium using ceric ammonium nitrate as redox initiator. The effects of various reaction Parameters including reaction time, temperature, and concentrations of gelatin, monomer, initiator and nitric acid on the percentage of grafting and grafting efficiency were studied systematically. The influences of some inorganic salts, organic additives as welt as emulsifiers were also investigated.
