Abstract Surface modification and fouling of polysulfone(PS) membranes as well as polyacrylomitrile(PAN)membranes were studied by grafting acrylamide with the initiating systems of Ce����4+��/-OH and Fe����2+��/H��2O��2 after pretreatment by K��2S��2O��8 and alkaline respectively.The surface modified membranes were verified by infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.Results showed that the anti-fouling ability of both PS and PAN membranes with respect to bovine serum albumin was improved after surface modification though the water flux was reduced.����
