Abstract Supercritical extraction has become very popular in recent years.Supercritical carbon dioxide can be used as a replacer for organic solvents, which enables the development of green processes. However it is a very poor solvent for high molecular weight, hydrophilic molecules.and metal ions.By using reverse micelles to solve this problem,a wide variety of novel processes can be developed.A review of reverse micelles in supercritical carbon dioxide system is presented in this paper including the principles and application, especially in supercritical carbon dioxide extraction.
