Abstract 2,3,5-trichloropyridine is a valuable intermediate for producing herbicidally effective compounds.In this paper,the process for producing 2,3,5-trichloropyridine from pentachloropyridine was studied.In the process,2,3,5-trichloropyridine was obtained by reacting pentachloropyridine with zinc powder in an alkaline medium at 75��.The effect factors such as temperature,time,the amount of zinc powder etc were studied.Self-made Oldershaw column was employed to separate the resulting products and it can shorten the work-up procedures.The purity of 2,3,5-trichloropyridine was up to 97%,mp 48�桪49��.
