Abstract Potassium cyanate was prepared by reacting potassium carbonate with urea in a suitable solvent.Reacting conditions were optimized by orthogonal experiment.The optimal conditions were:160��,2.5h,the mole ratio of urea to carbonate was 2.5��1,the mass ratio of solvent to urea was 8.0��1,rotating speed of agitator blade was 280r/min.The product contained KOCN 98.39%,the yield was 84.17%.Potassium cyanate was identified by IR.
