Abstract Model equation for the calculation of volumetric mass transfer coefficient in a multi-compartment airlift loop reactor was developed on the base of Higbie's penetration theory. Specific gas liquid interfacial areas and volumetric mass transfer coefficient were experimentally investigated with chemical method. The effects of superficial gas velocities and concentrations of catalyst on mass transfer property were discussed, and the agreement of calculated values and the experimental data was verified in this paper.
