Abstract A new kind of biosurfactant is acquired through ultrafiltrating, concentrating, and the freeze-drying the surface-active component in the penicillin broth. At the same time the emulsification problem is solved. The ultrafiltration membrane of 10 ku cut-off molecular weight could separate the surfactant from the broth efficiently, and thereby eliminate the emulsification in extraction process. This biosurfactant's concentration in the antibiotic broth is 2.659 g/L.
