Abstract The hot-film anemometry was applied to measure the gas holdup in the countercurrent bubble column at different gas and liquid velocities.An improved threshold-value-method was employed to analyse the gas holdup distribution across different sections of the column.In each section,the profile of gas holdup appears decrease from the center to the wall.At the same time,the gas holdup distribution in the countercurrent bubble column was simulated with CFD(computational fluid dynamics) at different gas and liquid velocities.The calculated results can agree with the measured values.
