Abstract The progress in direct-contact heat transfer between immiscible liquids both in practice and theory was intruduced.A simplified calculation of each surface area was proposed for three kinds of heat transfer interfaces between bubble and continuous phase.Coefficient and several rational expressions of transient heat transfer coefficient were presented. At last, the engineering application of direct-contact heat transfer, especially in distillation was introduced.
