Abstract A new kind of styrene ion-exchange fiber was developed for boron adsorption. The ion-ex-change fiber was produced from commercially available polypropylene grafted styrene fiber as the back-bone,through the chlorine methylation and amination reaction of amino-based glucose. The new products performed high selectivity for boron absorption under the condition when there were a large number of co-existing salts. The samples have large surface area and can be used instead of granulated ion-exchange resin for adsorption of boron, which is proposed to have very high practical value.
