Abstract

Fully thermally coupled distillation columns(FTC) or divided wall column(DWC) can reduce energy consumption and capital investment compared with conventional distillation consequences and therefore becomes an attractive alternate to traditional distillation column for the separation of multicomponent mixtures. Economical behavior and flexibility of DWC were numerically investigated when it was used to separate a three-component mixture. Four DWCs based on four different compositions were designed by rigorous simulation and then simulated to show the dependence of a total annual cost (TAC) of the columns on the vapor and liquid split ratio. Economical behavior of four divided wall columns in case of changes in feed composition was demonstrated as well.
