Abstract Lithiumion batteries present a significant important application on energy storage due to their merits of high energy density, high energy conversion efficiency, wide working temperature range and long cycle life. In this paper, the characteristics and research progresses on the Li-ion batteries are reviewed mainly based on the key materials of LiFePO4, LiMn2O4 and Li4Ti5O12. Furthermore, the existing problems,technical direction and future development trend of Li-ion batteries energy storage system are discussed and prospected.
