Abstract Excessive emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, have caused serious impact on climate and environment due to the combustion of fossil fuel. Solid adsorbents have attracted growing interests in fields of carbon dioxide capture technology owing to their unique advantages such as easy processing, re-usability, small loss of raw materials. In this paper, advantages and disadvantages of the solid sorbents, which have developed in recent years, are discussed. According to the difference of adsorption temperatures, the sorbents could be divided into three types: the low temperature, medium temperature, high temperature. This paper focuses on the adsorption properties and modification methods of high temperature calcium-based sorbents considering high temperature absorption of carbon dioxide. And calcium-based sorbents is the most ideal high temperature adsorbent due to its high adsorption capacity, wide-distribution of raw materials and low costs.
