Abstract Polyacrylonitrile(PAN) particles were prepared via boiling process and the particles were oximated by reacting with hydroxylamine hydrochloride. Effects of pH, concentration, reaction temperature and time on the efficiency of amidoxime functionlized reaction were experimentally studied. The results demonstrate that the best conditions are as follows: pH value of 6-7, concentration of hydroxylamine hydrochloride solution of 40 g/L, temperature of 65-75 ℃, the reaction time of 3.0 h. The paper also makes a further study about the application of polyacrylonitrile particles containing amidoxime group in waste water containing Ni2+. By using 4.0 g particles, waste water was disposed  100 mL for one time and 300 mL for cumulative adsorption.
