Abstract The novel SPEEK composite membranes used in the electrosynthesis of ammonium persulfate were made to decrease energy consumption and improve current efficiency. By testing the membrane’s electrolytic properties, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the supporting layer, it is found that the corrosion resistance of polyester cloth was the best of all the measured materials. SPEEK composite membrane based on polyester cloth with 100 mesh counts exhibited the highest tensile strength; and the SPEEK composite membrane based on polyester cloth with 50 mesh counts obtained both the highest current efficiency and the lowest energy consumption. After all, the SPEEK composite membrane based on polyester cloth with 50 mesh counts is considered more appropriate to be applied in the electrosynthesis of ammonium persulfate, although its mechanical properties is not the best, the mechanical properties has been greatly improved compared with pure SPEEK membrane, and it also has a higher current efficiency and lower energy consumption. |
