Abstract A series of energy efficient separation schemes for ethylene glycol purification from dimethyl oxalate hydrogenation were studied based on energy consideration.With the screening by matrix method,an energysaving sequence with four distillation columns was determined.Then,the main process parameters were investigated by optimization and sensitivity analysis modules in Aspen Plus.Under the condition of purity and yield,the parameters including number of theoretical plates,reflux ratio and distillate ratio were proposed.
