Abstract Gas-liquid two phase flow patterns have been investigated in vertical glass tubes with different diameters. The liquids used are with ifferent viscosities and surface tension. Air is injected into stagnant liquid through a distributor. The flow patterns were observed by a high speed video system and also by visual inspection. Their void fractions were measured. Tests showed that the two phase flow patterns of air-highly viscous liquids and air-foaming liquids are very different from that of air-water. Their Volumetric void fractions change within a wide range.
