Abstract In this paper the effects of the additives added into the electrolyte of the lead acid battery on the battery performances were studied.By measuring the discharge capacity, the ability of battery to accept charging capacity, the polarization curve and charge maintenance,a comparison of the performances of the battery is made between the cases in the presence of additive E and additive F and without the additive in the electrolyte. The results demonstrate that when additive E and additive F are added into the electrolyte, the ability of battery to accepting charge is greatly improved especially under the low temperature condition. In the meanwhile, the over potential of the negative electrode evolving hydrogen is enhanced, hence the self charge of the battery in the storage process is lowered.
