Abstract The use of supercritical fluids(SF) as media for the preparation of fine particles is developed recently. This paper describes two routes to particle formation: the rapid expansion of supercritical solution and the supercritical antisolvent(SAS).Based on SAS,some improved SF technologies in preparing microparticles, such as ASES,SEDS and SAS-EM are introduced briefly. In addition, the influences of technical conditions on the particles size and size distribution are introduced.Emphasis is put on the application of supercritical fluid technique for preparing microparticles in catalysts. Finally, the main problem and prospect are proposed.
