Abstract The continuous crystallization process of trisodium citrate pentahydrate was investigated. The particle size distribution of trisodium citrate pentahydrate in continuous crystallization process was measured using Malvern sizer equipment. Using these data and size-independent growth model, the nucleation and growth equations of trisodium citrate pentahydrate were determined. It was shown that the nucleation rate of trisodium citrate pentahydrate was more sensitive to supersaturation than the growth rate. It can be deduced that average particle size will be smaller when the supersaturation of solution is increased.
