Abstract Mesoporous Cu-MCM-41 catalyst was successfully synthesized and its textural and reduction properties were characterized by BET, TEM, XRD and TPR. The results indicated that the catalyst had regular mesoporous structure and copper was highly dispersed on MCM-41 supporter. Gaseous hydrogenation of DMO reaction was carried out to investigate the catalytic performance of Cu-MCM-41 catalyst. The tests of reaction parameters indicated that reaction temperature, pressure, H2/DMO ratio and liquid hourly space velocity (LHSV) all have much effect on the catalytic performance. The optimum reaction conditions were: reaction temperature 473 K, pressure 2.5 MPa, H2/DMO ratio 80—100. Under these conditions, DMO could be fully converted and the selectivity of EG was over 98% at LHSV as 2.0 h-1.
