Abstract Methyl salicylate has been synthesized by esterification of salicylic acid with methanol using heteropoly [HSiW] as a catalyst. The effect of amount of the heteropoly acid ,reaction time and molar ratio of salicylic acid to methanol on the esterification has been studied. The experimental results show that :the amount of the catalyst is 1%,the reaction temperature is 68��70�� ,reaction time is 2. 5h ,the yield of methyl salicylate is 94%. The catalyst is still stable after using for five times.The esterification method is of value in industrial production. Author to whom all correspondece shoould addressed.
