Abstract In this paper, the preparation, particle morphology and vheology of poly(styrene)/poly (2-ethylhexy/acrylate-co-acrylic acid)core/shell carboxylic emulsion were investigated. The core/shell carboxylic latices prepared by two stage method are of "inverted" structure, which is not affected by the concentration of initiator and the mixing speed. The effects of the amount of acrylic acid used, the charging method and the ratio of core to shell on the rheology of the emulsion were also investigated. The results have shown that an alkali thickening emulsion can be obtained by dropping the mix edmonomers with gradient content of acrylic acid in the process of reaction. |
