Abstract 2-Benzyl-4-chlorophenol is an excellent disinfectant.4-Chloro-phenol and benzyl chloride were stirred and heated at the presence of ferric trichloride as the catalyst.2-Benzyl-4-chloro-phenol was obtained.The yield is between 77% and 78%.The purity of the product by two-step distillation is 97.78%,mp:43.43�桫46.10��.The factors affecting the yield were studied,and the optimally selected parameters were obtained.The products were analyzed with HPLC and IR.
